BUS CAPACITY AND FULL BUSES
September is one of Transit’s busiest time of year as customers return to school across the city. Many popular trips have high frequency, such as trips every 10 minutes in some cases. Students can prepare before their first trip by having an alternative trip in mind in case their bus fills up quickly.
Saskatoon Transit will closely monitor ridership, bus capacity, customer feedback and demand across the network, and make adjustments where needed to help support a safe, reliable and comfortable ride for customers.
THE TRANSIT CODE – RESPECT OTHERS
Most students already ride responsibly every day. The Transit Code outlines the shared expectations for everyone using Saskatoon Transit and helps create a safe, respectful and welcoming transit experience.
Before boarding, students should:
- Have a valid fare ready: card, mobile fare or other proof of payment
- Treat Transit employees and fellow riders with respect
- Use headphones and keep noise levels reasonable
- Keep aisles, doors and priority seating areas clear
- Help keep buses, bus stops and terminals clean
- Follow directions provided by Transit staff when required
Students can purchase transit passes:
- At their school's front office (where available)
- With the TGo or Transit apps
- At the Saskatoon Transit Customer Service Centre or a participating vendor
FARE CHECKS AND STUDENT AWARENESS
Throughout the school year, and especially during the first weeks of September, Transit Supervisors and Saskatoon Police Service may be present at busy school loading areas and transit hubs. Their role is to promote safety, support awareness of The Transit Code and verify fare payment and card scanning.
Students may be asked to:
- Present their card or mobile ticket as proof of payment
- Follow The Transit Code expectations while travelling
- Leave the bus if they are not following the Saskatoon Transit Bylaw in effect September 1, 2026
Enforcement may occur when behaviour affects safety, accessibility or the customer experience.
REMINDER: FARE CHANGES TOOK EFFECT JULY 1
Saskatoon Transit will adjust fares in 2026 and 2027. The first adjustment took effect on July 1, 2026, and a second will take effect on January 1, 2027.

Low-Income and Discounted Social Service passes will maintain their current rates with no increases, and free fare for children in Grade 8 and under remains unchanged. Students and families should review current fare information when purchasing or renewing passes for the upcoming school year.
NEW RELOADABLE SMART CARDS
Saskatoon Transit launched new reloadable smart cards in March 2026. Starting September 1, old smart cards will no longer be accepted as a valid pass, as farebox scanners are replaced with cash-only tops. New smart cards and mobile tickets will continue to use the validator near the bus entrance.
What you can do
- Students with old smart cards should visit the Transit Customer Service Centre to maintain and transfer their balance, as schools can't do this.
COMING SOON: ONLINE SMART CARD PURCHASING AND RELOADING
Starting in mid-September, Saskatoon Transit will provide riders with additional options to purchase and reload eligible transit passes through an online portal.
More information, including mobile application updates, details on how the online portal will work and which fare products will be available, will be shared closer to launch.
HELP SHAPE A NEW NON-EMERGENCY REPORTING TOOL
Saskatoon Transit is exploring a new non-emergency reporting tool that would allow customers to report concerns such as disruptive behaviour, vandalism, cleanliness issues and other non-emergency situations while using transit. The proposed tool is intended to help Transit respond more effectively to concerns that affect the customer experience while keeping emergency situations directed to 911. The project is currently in the public feedback stage.
Important: The reporting tool would be intended for non-emergency situations only. If there is an immediate threat to safety or a medical emergency, call 911.
